The NPI Dashboard core database was last updated . The database for the public web site is usually updated weekly. Additional data may be updated as necessary. You can take a look at the database numbers and statistics.
  • During the registration process we ask you for your email. This is only happening because we want to stay in contact with you in several ways. Here are some:
  • During the registration process and in order to activate the account, we will send a confirmation mail with a link.
  • If you have forgotten your password and you choose to reset your password, you will be asked to enter your email, in order to send you an email with a link to reset it.
  • The core of the database is the National Provider Identifier data. More information can be found here.
  • Referral data currently contains records and is provided by CMS as well as providers using Medical Schedule's Appointment Scheduling System. All patient identifiers are removed. We only record the referral source and destination.
  • Additional data is added from the US. Census.

The NPI signup process explicitly recommends that providers not use their home addresses. Unfortunately, there is no way Medical Schedule, Inc., or NPPES can prevent providers from doing this.

  • If you have published your home address in your NPI record, correct it with NPPES.
  • When Medical Schedule updates the NPI Dashboard database, it will automatically be corrected.
  • This will usually be done within a month.

The referral data files have been generated out of data from the National Claims History database.
The referral data include claims for the following time periods and volumes:

The referral data include these institutional claim types:

  • Medicare HHA Claim.
  • Medicare Non-Swing Bed SNF Claim.
  • Medicare Hospice Claim.
  • Medicare Inpatient Claim.
  • Medicare Swing Bed SNF Claim.
  • Medicare Outpatient Claim.
  • Medicare Inpatient Full Encounter Claim.
  • Medicare Advantage (No-Pay) Claims.

The referral data includes these non-institutional claim types:

  • Medicare RIC M DMERC DMEPOS Claim.
  • Medicare RIC M DMERC Non-DMEPOS Claim.
  • Medicare RIC 0 Local Carrier.

A provider will be counted only once per claim, even if the provider appears on multiple lines or in multiple roles.

A referral relationship is presumed from physician A to physician B when a claim for physician B follows a claim for physician A within 365 days and both claims are for the same beneficiary.

Presumed referral relationships based on same-day events will be assigned to the lesser of the two NPIs.

Presumed referral relationships based on claims for fewer than eleven distinct beneficiaries will be excluded from the reports.
