Prior to October 2012, the publically available data only included active NPI records and no deactivated records. After that time period, deactivated records in the available database had all information removed besides the NPI number and the deactivation date.
How we do it differently:
Our data warehouse keeps all NPI-related information, even if a NPI number has been deactivated, we have all available data prior to deactivation to know which provider or organization is matched to a NPI number.

What if I can’t find what I’m looking for?
The NPI registry is updated regularly but not in real time. Additionally, some providers in the database do not keep their information up-to-date when their practice changes or moves.
